The intentional community at Telford Farms in Cedar has generously offered to support TAP (The Art Place -- Traverse City's Community Media Arts Center) by sponsoring a movie night!
TAP will be screening 'Sita Sings The Blues', an incredible animated feature by Nina Paley ... a generous filmmaker from New York City.

This film was screened at the Traverse City Film Festival this year and is sheer magic.

"I am thrilled we can screen it outdoors on the barn at Telford Farm," says Chris Allen-Wickler, director of The Art Place.

There will be Mango Lassis and other refreshing movie watching snacks available. Bring your own blankets, lawn chairs, extra sweater and socks and prepare to be dazzled!
Admission is by donation for the benefit of The Art

Shibendu Lahiri in Traverse City, Feb 19, 2009

A well-known yogi, whose name is Shibendu Lahiri, is coming to Traverse City on February 19, 2009 and is offering to teach others about the ancient techniques of Kriya Yoga. His visit, which goes from February 19 to February 23rd, includes a free public talk (2/19 at 7:00); A Kriya Yoga Initiation (2/20 at 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. with a $100 suggested donation) and a retreat (from 2/21-2/23). Please RSVP for retreat before February 1, 2009 at 231.392.4798. Kriya yoga, an ancient practice brought from India, is described by Lahiri as "a yogic technique whereby the sensory tumult of the mind is stilled, permitting individuals to achieve an ever-increasing identity with cosmic consciousness." This Kriya yoga knowledge is passed down from father to son in India, and Shibendu is one of the few authentic masters of this technique.
Periodically Shibendu Lahiri comes as a guest invited by private persons (there is no organization, no association, no sect etc.) in different countries where he holds Satsangs (lecture with questions and answers) and he shares the teaching and the practice of the Kriya Yoga.
Since 1988, Shibendu has spent his time sharing the teachings and the kriyas all around the world. He travels at the invitation of teachers and students. Countries he has covered so far are: USA (including Hawaii and Puerto Rico), Canada, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, South Africa, Mauritius, Chile (South America), Norway, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Bulgaria, Russia, Nepal, Sweden, Netherland, England, New Zealand, Brazil, Greece and of course, various places in India. Many other nationals have also come to him during his kriya-Yoga programs in many places.Shibendu Lahiri says, "These Kriyas are not physical fitness programs, but simple practices which release the body from the stranglehold of mental pollutions and generate an energy of equanimity. This is freedom from 'Viyoga' (a separative and divisive psyche). And that is Yoga --- the dawn of intelligence (Chaitanya) -- which remains dormant due to the pre-occupation of human beings with the activity of 'I-ness'"

Suttons Bay High presents "The Mouse That Roared"

Entertaining farce comments on world politics

"The Mouse That Roared" will be presented Friday and Saturday, November 7th and 8th at 7:00 and Sunday, November 9th at 2:00 in the Suttons Bay High School auditorium .

Tickets are $5.00 and available in the high school office during school hours as well as at the door during performances. The play is about a tiny European country called Fenwick that declares war on the United States after a California winery steals the label of its only export, Pinot Grand Fenwick. This farce is amusing and entertaining, but also touches on some serious issues.

Twenty-five Suttons Bay high school students are involved in the play which is directed by Toni Manning. Feel free to call Mrs. Manning at 271-8627 for more information.

"The Mouse That Roared" has also been adapted for the stage by Christopher Seigel, popular in amateur and school theatres. Peter Sellers starred in a film version which was released in 1959.
